One Winemaker. Three Ideas About Wine.

We've been making wine in Santa Barbara County for since 2007.

Our Origin

Municipal Winemakers started with a simple idea: wine is a part of everyday life. Not something locked away for special occasions or explained with complicated language. We began making small batches of wine from vineyards around Santa Barbara County and sharing them with friends in our tasting rooms. Over time the project grew, but the spirit stayed the same — honest wines, made with care, meant to be opened often.

"Hose Draggers Forever" — the unofficial motto, borrowed from the firefighter slang for the crew that does the real work. It stuck.

Our Mission

We make wines that are vibrant, expressive, and easy to love. Our goal is for our bottles to be a part of bringing people together at a dinner table, a backyard pizza party, or a chill night with friends. Wine should feel welcoming and alive, not precious. Everything we do, from farming relationships to label design to tasting room vibes, is about keeping wine joyful and accessible.

Vineyard Sourcing

Great wine is made in the vineyard. We have long term relationships with growers across Santa Barbara County who farm thoughtfully and share our belief that the character of a place should show up in the glass. By sourcing fruit from a range of sites we’re able to make wines that capture the diversity and energy of our special corner of the planet.

Why We Love Wine

Wine is alive … literally and figuratively. It’s one of the oldest human pleasures, something we’ve been making and sharing for thousands of years, and it’s still changing in the bottle right now. At its most basic, it’s sunlight and soil transformed into something you can drink. But that simplicity is deceptive. Wine is simultaneously one of the most basic and most infinitely complex things on a table. It’s endlessly fascinating, and after all these years, we still haven’t gotten tired of that.
