Sangiovese is a red Italian wine grape variety that derives its name from the Latin sanguis Jovis, "the blood of Jupiter". While the name was coined by monks, many believe that the origin of Sangiovese dates the grape to the time of Roman winemaking. Sangio is mostly found in central Italy where the sun is strong and plentiful - a lot like our warm and dry Santa Ynez Valley.
We handpicked the fruit and aged the wine in old French oak barrels. The result is a Sangiovese with high acidity, grippy tannins, and moderate alcohol - a very food-friendly wine. We love its distinctive bitter-sweet cherries, violets and strong black tea tannins. This is a red wine for red sauce. Pour a really full glass to wash down all your pizzas, parms, and pomodoros.
