2023 Heavy Pets Petite Sirah

Petite is not the word we’d have chosen. There’s nothing small about Petite Sirah — dense, dark, and chewy in a way that makes a lot of other reds feel thin. Our grapes come from head-trained, organic dry-farmed vines on a gravelly hillside in Santa Ynez. In the glass: inky purple-red. On the nose: blackberries, rocks, and dust. On the palate, exactly that — plus tannins that grip in the best way and a finish that sticks around. Drink it with food. Steak, smoky braised eggplant, or — our pick — chicken mole. That’s the pairing. It’s not close. Open it now, or hold it another three to five years if you can wait that long.
