Potek Winery

A name reclaimed. A legacy carried forward.

A legacy interrupted by a desk clerk at Ellis Island.

Potek takes its name from David Potter's great-grandfather, who emigrated from Romania in 1917 — his name changed at Ellis Island, his spirit carrying forward. What he brought with him was a belief in hard work, in tradition, and in the courage to start somewhere new.

Berl's sons Albert and Bertrum settled on the Southern California coast in the 1950s. David Potter founded Potek in 2012, named after the great-grandfather he never knew — reclaiming the name that was taken, honoring the story that wasn't lost.

Potek wines are French varietals planted in Santa Barbara County's most compelling vineyard sites, made with Old World craft and expressed through place. What we do changes from year to year, because nature is not static. Tradition doesn't stop here. It just found a new address.
