2022 Vermentino

Vermentino is a white grape, primarily found in Italian wines, but there’s also a decent chunk in the south of France, and a bit right here in Santa Barbara. The vines are coastal elites that like being close to the sea. Vermentino notoriously goes by many names, even in the same country - Arratelau, Pigato, Favorita in and Italy — it is also sometimes known as Rolle or Malvoisie de Corse—and can be found in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, the Côtes de Provence, and the island of Corsica.

Let’s roll with Vermentino though, ok? It’s got bright, fresh acidity with notes of green apple, citrus fruits like grapefruit and lime, and soft, salty minerality - that love of sea. Vermentino is a star pairing for most seafood dishes, from freshly shucked oysters and mignonette sauce to fried clams or battered fish tacos. The wine’s light salinity echoes the ocean, and mellow citrus notes won’t overshadow even the most delicate cold seafood tower.
