2009 SWEETNESS
Sweetness is made from hand-picked Riesling grapes sourced from Kick On Ranch in Santa Barbara County. 2009 was a great vintage, blessed by an even, long growing season that produced intense flavors while maintaining natural acids. The skins were soaked in the press for a couple of hours to increase mouthfeel and viscosity. It was cold settled and fermented long, cold, and slow in stainless steel, then stopped with freezing temperature, leaving some natural residual grape sugar.
This wine is delicious upon release, and is intended to be drunk now, but those with patience will be rewarded over the next 2-3 years as it develops those curiously tasty toasty lemon butter and kerosene characters of aged riesling. Wine is always changing, but at bottling, 2009 Sweetness is pale yellow in color. It shows floral, mineral, and delicate honey-toasty aromas. The mouth is balanced between crisp citrus flavors and the residual sweetness. This medium-sweet style of Riesling is awesome with rich cheeses and not-chocolate deserts. Try it with shellfish, or pour some over fresh fruit salad for a delicious treat.
