Vineyards

We take pride in sourcing fruit from some of the greatest vineyards in the area. Check out our interactive maps by following the ‘show me where‘ links. Make sure you turn on ‘satellite View’ for the greatest effect (you can see vines), then cruise around the valley, zoom in, zoom out, and visit all the blocks that we source our fruit from. We have info like clones and rootstocks available for those who might be interested. All you have to do is click on one of the shaded in blocks.

Enjoy!

Rodney’s Vineyard (show me where)

The Riesling fruit for Bright White was sourced 100% from Rodney’s Vineyard – the estate vineyard of Fess Parker Winery. This vineyard has been hailed as one of the ‘Grand Cru’ (first class) vineyards of California by Robert Parker (famous wine critic).

Camp Four Vineyard (show me where)

Camp Four Vineyard is located on Baseline, on the eastern side of the valley.  It was named after its older incarnation as a stagecoach stop (number 4) for weary ol’ west travelers.  Just about every winery in Santa Barbara County buys grapes from this vineyard owned by the Parker family.  They grow just about every variety here and the fruit quality is always solid.  It is a warm site and is great for Rhone variety grapes like Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah. From the Fess Parker website:

The initial 250-acre block was completed and produced its first crop in harvest 2003. Located slightly Southwest from the winery in the Santa Ynez Valley, the warmer climates and loam soils of this site shows great potential for producing fully ripened, mature fruit.

Star Lane Vineyard (show me where)

Star Lane

The Cabernet Sauvignon component of our upcoming Dark Red comes from Starlane vineyard which is renowned as the best in the region for Cabernet. Jim Dierberg (a billionaire) who owns the vineyard has said that he wants to be on the cover of wine spectator as the number one rated wine for his Cabernet, and he doesn’t spare any expenses on the farming of this ranch. It is being managed very well, the vines look great, and We scored some of this fruit!!

From their website:

Star Lane Vineyard, located at the far eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, is both the warmest and the highest elevation vineyard in the appellation. Backing up to the lower slopes of the San Rafael Mountains, Star Lane features a unique range of weathered sand, gravel and alluvial cobbles over a clay/loam subsoil. What this means is that it has both excellent drainage and good water holding capacity in the subsoil, and is similar to those of the best properties of Bordeaux. Visually, the vineyard is on the demarcation line where pine trees naturally grow and thus has a different climate than any other area within Santa Barbara County, yet still enjoys the marine influence from the east-west orientation of the Santa Ynez Valley (which makes this place really unique).

Tierra Alta Vineyard (show me where)

_mg_1240

The Syrah component for the Dark Red, as well as all the fruit for the Black Beads comes from the Tierra Alta Vineyard. Tierra Alta is in the cooler part of the Santa Ynez Valley that is called Ballard Canyon. Our fruit came from a steep block of Syrah that is on some serious limestone at the top of the hill. Limestone tends to give the wine an interesting minerality. This vineyard is known best for its Syrah and other winemakers have been making some great (and high scoring) wines from this place. Our wines from Tierra Alta are some of the most concentrated and darkest flavored in the cellar.

Check out this tasting note from another winery in the valley that makes a Tierra Alta Syrah…

With elegance that only angels possess, gliding into the room amidst a potpourri of cherries, blueberries, and pomegranate, she captures your imagination with lavender perfume and obliterates your inhibitions with nuances of nutmeg, sage, and toffee. In a move of selfish spontaneity, you embrace desire and delve into a kiss loaded with all the flavors of passion –strawberries, pomegranate, cassis and cherries. A Sirens song of coffee and cola expose diabolic intentions saturating your soul with lust. An evening of black ties and red dresses becomes a night of stolen moments and necessary sin, compressing the wonders of eternity into one moment.

Wow! Sign me up for some of that.
